Beasts of Elemental

Dragons

An extensive dragon civilization existed before men emerged on Elemental. Their culture was clan-based and passed on through oral tradition and shared memories. But much of the history of dragons is lost; save for that preserved in the writings of Tan-la-Ur and some of the lesser priests of the Cult of the Dragon. Remnants of dragon civilization are still visible on the continent of Anthys. Not in the form of buildings and cities, but rather in the caverns and tunnels that honeycomb the land. While spreading across Elemental, dragons shaped the land to suit their needs. They did this with fire; blasting out dwelling places in the very cliff sides themselves. And they did it, at times, with the aid of magic.

In the wars that followed the emergence of human civilization, the dragon civilization was all but wiped out. Only through the handed down writings of Tan-la-Ur do we know anything at all of their culture, their clans, and most importantly, their magical abilities. Those few dragons that survive remain intelligent and powerful creatures. They are also skittish, solitary, and rare. Normally, they hide in the deepest caverns and the most inaccessible places.

Fell Dragons dwell in the deepest caves, often going years without being exposed to sunlight. Even on the rare occasions they visit the surface they usually remain within the shadows of their caves or under thick forest cover, hidden by their dark scales, their senses keenly aware of anything around them. They are small for dragons, only slightly larger than Clambercoil Dragons, and ruthless, spiteful creatures. Any nobility that remained in dragons is lost to them, and though they may be willing to barter with men powerful enough to gain their respect, they will do so only to gain the opportunity to feed their desires for destruction and cruelty.

Guardian Statue

The statues were intended as a warning to bandits and brigands. The townspeople enjoyed having their silent guardian looking over them, and the bandits were cowed by the imposing figure. But as the years went on, and the bandits became more and more desperate they ignored the guardian and began to raid the city.

Imagine their surprise when the statue began to move.

Butcherman

In an attempt to appease the titans 10,000 men, women and children were sacrificed to Curgen at Red Spring. Not only did this not deter the Titan but these men now find themselves unable to die, bound in service to a Titan that didn't accept them. So they wander the plains with the belief that if they kill another, their victims spirit will become indebted to Curgen in their place, and they can pass on to death.

Ritualist

Where the other shards may whisper of their yearning, death shards talk to those around them. They promise power to those that will listen, that will serve, that will perform the rituals required to allow the demons into the world.

The ritualist becomes little more than a puppet, a conduit between the world and prison of the death shard. And if the ritualist is allowed to finish their casting a death demon will come through that gate, and destroy anyone in their way.

Ophidian

Sages say the Ophidian were once great pythons, related to the bonefield morelia, but they were changed after nesting in crystal deposits. After generations the crystals became embedded in their scales, which caused the Ophidian to grow to be twice as long as their ancestors, and gain a resistance to spells. Their bite causes a feeling of numbness and euphoria in the victim that wouldn't be unpleasant except that it occurs while the victim is being attacked by a giant, angry snake.

Hunters brave enough to capture or kill Ophidian can salvage crystals from their scales that are valuable to enchanters, and some have been known to sell their venom to fleshmongers and less reputable alchemists.

Elemental Lords

Torax, Who Grinds Mountains to Dust

Torax is a plague to the merchants that try to cut across the Lombard desert. To sages and adventurers he is a legend, a moving mountain cloaked by a sandstorm. To the wilding natives of the desert, Torax is a god. He shapes the world, claws out deep pits in the earth and changes the patterns of dunes that are larger than a Kraxis castle and longer than the Henge.

Abeix, Who Dwells Beneath

Glory to any champion that is able to defeat Abeix. He is a fearsome Elemental lord and guardian of the Bhindami Fissure. There are few weapons that can damage him through his rocky hide and little armor that can resist his acidic spittle. How many armies have been destroyed in challenging him, how many more will he claim?

Morian, the Ruin of Summer

Morian was once a powerful nature spirit but lost his mind when his vast forests were destroyed by the cataclysm. Now he haunts the swamps as a dark reflection of his former self.

Delin, the Pyre of Man

There is no record of Delin from before the cataclysm. His first appearance was over the lost city of Anniellum, where 200,000 perished during the cataclysm when a volcano exploded and buried the city in lava and ash. Ever since Delin has wandered the world burning all he encounters and taking particular delight in killing men.

Vetrar, Guardian of the World’s End

No one knows if there is more frozen tundra beyond the land Vetrar stands watch over. His title doesn't refer to the physical end of the world, but the belief that when all warmth bleeds out of the world, when summer has gone forever, that Vetrar will be the world's last champion. And when that time comes he will destroy all life on Elemental, be they men, fallen, or the other perversions of flesh.
